The brilliance of social media is in the ability to communicate regardless of time or location.

FCB Brazil recently teamed with CNA language school to run a speaking exchange, connecting elderly Americans living in retirement homes with young Brazillians who wanted to learn English.

The simple idea helped engage lonely residents looking for someone to speak to, with keen youth wanting to practise their language skills with patient and willing listeners.

The exchanges were recorded and uploaded via private YouTube channels for their teachers to evaluate their language development and student progression.

While students learned, they also found they devloped richer cultural understanding and emotional relationships, with Max Geraldo, FCB Brazil’s executive advocating, “the beauty of this project is we develop better students when we develop better people.”

Joanna Monteiro, executive creative director at FCB Brazil says, “the idea is simple and it’s a win-win proposition for both the students and the American senior citizens. It’s exciting to see their reactions and contentment. It truly benefits both sides.”

See the video below for their lovely interactions.
