In 2012 Dialogue Consulting launched the first report into the use of social media by NZ governments as a companion to our popular Social Media in Australian Local Governments report.

We found some key differences between the two countries: notably, while the uptake of social media was generally similar, there was significantly less engagement on the whole in New Zealand compared to Australia. The reasons behind this are uncertain — perhaps it’s a difference between how end-users use social media, or perhaps it’s due to the government sector in NZ not sufficiently using social media (on the whole).

In both reports, there were notable exemplars and case studies have been provided to illustrate some of the key findings of the report.
